Yeah, it was you, among other people both on that post and elsewhere. When it comes to things like this I don't think just complaining is going to work -- because, well, all that happens is that people complain, the ad stays up, and nothing is achieved.

I still don't think I made a bad point. If I'm beholden to this code of conduct, if my content can be arbitrarily and without warning deleted for violating it, why do I have to give LiveJournal the same courtesy?

(And, dude, I wasn't just complaining. I worked with [livejournal.com profile] marta on the LJ Staff as soon as I got back from work in order to fix the problem.)

Plus, like... I'm not a corporate entity. I'm not really sure how this hurts my "PR" in any way.

What I meant by the PR statement is that it's hard to take the argument seriously when it essentially boils down to the old chestnut of why Dreamwidth is so much better than LiveJournal.

how is that an "old chestnut"? LOL dreamwidth has only been really active for about 3 days.
snugglebitch is a good person. don't criticize her.

Oh, dear, here we go with the defensive, unhelpful comments from people's friends. Simply because you like her doesn't mean people aren't allowed to disagree with what she does or what she says, so, no, I won't be taking your advice.

As for how it's an "old chestnut" -- Dreamwidth has been in open beta for three days, but people have been talking about it as the second coming for weeks. So, yeah, at this point, Dreamwidth/Other Journaling Service is better than LiveJournal is pretty old meme.

so you're just being unpleasant because you are unpleasant.
if you read the OP's post, she worked with an LJ admin to fix the problem. not sure what else you'd want.
and livejournal's had problems since it got sold the first time. everyone knows that. now that there's a seemingly-stable other option, of course people are going to be a little happy about it. jesus.

I will always defend people I like on the basis of the other good things they do.

[personal profile] buongiornodaisy 2009-05-04 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's very noble of you, but please don't go around saying that people can't criticize the people you like because you like them. That's very...unwise of you, to phrase it nicely.

From what I could see in the post that was linked, other people were the ones doing the communication with the LJ admin, not her. If you'd like to link me to a comment or a post that suggest otherwise, by all means, do.

Well, there's this. And, y'know, a bunch of Private Messages back and forth between [livejournal.com profile] marta and I.

You want a timeline of events? I posted, tired and cranky, answered a few replies, went to work, THE INTERNET EXPLODED, I came back from work, talked to [livejournal.com profile] marta and we fixed it. Then I went to bed, got up this morning, posted again sorting out the situation (cuz it's really silly at this point), then saw you going off about bad PR (a statement that still doesn't make sense to me, cuz it's not like I'm working for Dreamwidth or anything).

I'm not saying don't criticize me ever, but I still don't get what I did so wrong in this whole situation.

RE: PR -- you know, some people, like me, use that term figuratively?

So, it would be fine to criticize LJ about it if they didn't mention Dreamwidth? Because otherwise they come off as DW partisans or something?

Bringing up a rival blogging service, who many people are switching to -- and giving their MONEY to -- because of LJ's shitty behavior actually sounds like a pretty good way to get this argument taken seriously.

Honestly? Yes. The Dreamwidth/fandom migration issue is such a hot topic right now that someone who reads this complaint could read it as another attempt to pimp out Dreamwidth, when they're already tired of all the other posts explaining why they should move to Dreamwidth or what they perceive to be methods to strong-arm them into joining Dreamwidth (i.e., linking them to locked posts over here). That besides, I personally don't see this as an issue with LiveJournal so much as I see it with an ad service that's been gamed by NOM, who's really the culprit here: not a website that didn't even know the ad was up in the first place.
